6/17/01 In the afternoon the dancers gather
under the arches of city hall to prepare for the afternoon's
dances. As usual, the women of Oņatz are there to help and
watch.

There is no procession in the afternoon. The dancers now perform
the same dances they did earlier during the procession in the more
contained space of the plaza. The dancers are the focal point of
afternoon events. |

The rainy weather of the morning's procession has lifted
and a crowd gathers around the periphery of the
plaza. |

One dance is added to the afternoon repertoire that is
not present in the procession - the Soka Dantza
or Aurresku. While the Korpus dances form part of
a religious ritual context, the Soka Dantza may be
viewed as a social ritual of community unity. |
