Luzaide, Nafarroa.  Bolant Eguna 2001

4/15/01 The kontra iantzak are performed by couples in the plaza.  In addition to four kontra iantzak these dancers also do Iantza Luzea which is sometimes also referred to as Madari Dantza, the pear dance.
Makilariak
4/15/01 This miniature makilari spontaneously ran into the performance space and was treated to a  lesson from an expert. The crowd went wild. His impeccable costume was made by his grandmother for the occasion.  His mother told me he had been looking forward to being a makilari all year long.
4/15/01 Bolantak make their way around the fronton or handball court in the afternoon of Bolant Eguna.
4/15/01 A moment of  Madari Dantza.
4/15/01 In a unique custom the axe and tupina accompanied by gorriak walk around the fronton three times after which spectators attack them with the intention of ripping away their costumes which are covered with brambles.
