The Oņatz rehearsal location below the Herri Eskola or
public school is busy nearly every day
with practices for different age groups. Here a group
of girls refine their steps. |

5/21/01 The Oņatz
group known as the Korpus dancers often practices outside in preparation
for Corpus Christi. Their informal audience often consists of
people from local baserris or farmsteads out for their evening
walk. Here the group works on Makil Dantza. I attended nearly
every practice they had in May and June. Thanks to all of them for
being so good natured about having a camera or video in their faces so
often. |

Accompanied by Jesus Irizar, I visited the Convent of
Santa Ana in Oņati where we were warmly received by
Sisters Miren Lore (left) and Mari Tere (right).
Here we examined the historical records of the Cofradía
del Santísimo Sacramento to gather data about the dance
component of Corpus Christi. |

5/22/01 The
boys' group that performed at the Azkoitia Haurren Eguna
works on the Arku Dantza from the cycle of Corpus
Christi dances. |
