Dr. Avalle-Arce

On April 11,
2003 Zenbat Gara participated in a Homage to Dr. Juan Bautista
Avalle-Arce on the occasion of his retirement at the University of
California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Avalle-Arce has been the José Miguel
de Barandiarán Professor of Basque Studies at UCSB as well as
Professor of Spanish; Spanish Middle Ages; Renaissance Golden Age;
Galdós, Valera, Valle-Inclán, Lorca; and Spanish-American Colonial
literatures. Dr. Avalle-Arce is a renown scholar of the works of
Cervantes.
At the conclusion of the dance
ensemble's performance, the group enacted a traditional Soka Dantza in
which Dr. Avalle-Arce led as Aurreskulari, the position of honor.
